Rapid technological changes are sweeping across our society—affecting how we do our work, how we run our businesses, and even how we live our lives. HBS has stepped forward to elevate and expand faculty research on the breadth and depth of this transformation and, in July, launched the Digital, Data, and Design Institute at Harvard (D^3).

The Institute provides HBS and other schools at Harvard with a powerful foundation for accelerating research on big, multidisciplinary problems in business and society. Its success will be defined by the impact of the faculty members’ research, the creation of a more porous research ecosystem with the rest of Harvard and beyond, the integration of new content and insights into the School’s curricula, and the ability to help companies be more competitive in the age of artificial intelligence. Ultimately, the Institute will position HBS and the University overall as global leaders in reshaping the landscape of the digital-first world and the role of business in that transformation.

The School is able to launch an endeavor of this magnitude because of gifts to the HBS Fund, which provide flexible support for investments in innovations that enhance student learning and that hold the potential to generate solutions to important issues facing business and society.
