Donors Praised for Fellowship Support
The fact that fellowships change lives was made plain on a rainy Wednesday evening in mid-April at the annual Fellowship Dinner, attended by some 500 guests. Dean Nitin Nohria spoke of his personal appreciation for such assistance, saying that neither he nor his wife would be where they are today had they not received fellowships. His brief, emotion-filled remarks initially moved the audience to silence, followed by loud applause.
Student speaker Peter Michailidis (MBA ’11) also expressed gratitude for his fellowships, funded by David M. Hicks (MBA ’60) and George M. Humphrey. “I did not have the resources to fund my MBA, but I was passionate about business and the opportunities it creates,” he told the audience, adding, “Your generosity will have a multiplier effect.” Michailidis was the first in his family to earn a college degree.
Earlier in the day, donors attended a first-year MBA class; took a tour of the Baker Library | Bloomberg Center exhibit “Buy Now, Pay Later”; and learned about the new Harvard innovation lab, a cross-university collaboration designed to spur entrepreneurial thinking at Harvard and beyond.
About half of all MBA students receive fellowships, which are generously funded by HBS alumni and friends.
