Fueling Innovation
Topics: Philanthropy-Giving ImpactEntrepreneurshipEducation-Curriculum and CoursesResearch-GeneralGeography-GlobalBy giving to the HBS Fund, alumni and friends support the School’s core priorities and help catalyze the launch of new programs and initiatives and sustain their growth. Featured here are a few key examples of innovations at HBS that would not have been possible without the seed funding and continual support provided by HBS Fund donors.
HARVARD INNOVATION LABS
The Harvard Innovation Labs have helped 9,000+ founders from all 13 Harvard schools turn their ideas into impact. This innovation ecosystem has expanded since its founding in 2011 and now includes the Student i-lab, the Launch Lab X GEO for alumni ventures, and the Pagliuca Harvard Life Lab for biotech and life science ventures.
MBA PROGRAM ENHANCEMENTS
To prepare its students to lead, HBS is constantly refining the MBA Program, developing new courses and cases, deploying different modes of teaching and learning, and also experimenting with generative artificial intelligence. In recent years, enhancements to the program have included Short Intensive Programs that enable students to think about career choices, gain practical skills, and explore new topics, and Weekend Sprints that offer subject-focused classes and community-building events.
GLOBAL RESEARCH CENTERS AND OFFICES
HBS’s 11 global centers and 7 regional offices are the nexus for the School’s international research and activities. This ever-evolving and expanding network of outposts facilitates faculty research, assists with immersions for students and faculty members, strengthens relationships with local alumni and practitioners, and supports admissions and career development outreach.
RESEARCH INSTITUTES
In 2022, HBS launched two research institutes that leverage faculty research in new and interesting ways. The Digital Data Design Institute at Harvard (D^3), based at HBS, is a pioneering hub dedicated to the study of transformative technologies, while the Institute for Business in Global Society (BiGS) serves as an intellectual center that builds on the strong foundation of work generated by faculty members on issues like climate change and inequality.
HARVARD BUSINESS SCHOOL ONLINE
HBS Online launched as HBX in 2014 to deepen the School’s impact and broaden its reach. It has educated 230,000+ learners from more than 175 countries via its innovative online platform. Each program offers varying levels of certification—from undergraduate credit to a Credential of Leadership, Impact, and Management in Business.
