New Leadership Role and Structure
MESSAGE FROM ANGELA CRISPI AND DEAN SRIKANT DATAR
To: HBS Faculty and Staff
From: Angela Crispi and Srikant Datar
Re: New Leadership Role and Structure
We are delighted to announce that effective January 1, 2024, Jana Kierstead will become Executive Director, MBA and Doctoral Programs and External Relations.
This organizational change reflects the lifelong relationship our students have with Harvard Business School—one that starts when they apply, deepens during their time on campus, and extends after they graduate and throughout their careers as alumni/ae. Recognizing that this relationship is a unique cornerstone of our community, we have asked Jana to lead an organization that focuses on the full arc of this engagement. The Doctoral Programs, MBA Program, and External Relations departments will continue to operate independently to support their constituents and activities, but our goal is to find opportunities for synergies and leverage so we can provide a seamless experience and unparalleled value proposition to anyone who attends Harvard Business School over the full span of their professional lives.
Jana has nearly 25 years of experience at HBS, with roles as Managing Director of MBA Career & Professional Development, Executive Director of the MBA Program, founding Executive Director of HBX (now HBS Online), and Executive Director of the MBA and Doctoral Programs. She oversaw the development of academic innovations such as the Field Global Immersion and the design of innovative approaches to increase financial aid and ensure affordability for students; responded to the myriad challenges of COVID; and introduced a new framework to support diversity, inclusion and belonging in the MBA and Doctoral Programs. Through all these efforts, Jana has developed and strengthened relationships across the School, Harvard University, and our peer institutions, bringing a spirit of partnership to everything she does. Her leadership, commitment to providing an outstanding learning experience and environment, creativity and energy, and dedication to the School and our community will be among the many strengths she brings to this new structure. Jana looks forward to getting to know our alumni/ae more deeply, including reconnecting with those she congratulated as they crossed the stage at graduation during her time at HBS.
