Our “On the Move” series highlights HBS alumni who are taking on new roles and responsibilities. Here we speak with Adam Laitsas (MBA 2016), who was announced as EVP of International Strategy & Business Operations for the Professional Fighters League (PFL) MENA region on June 8. In this role, Laitsas will oversee PFL’s expansion plans and grow the sport of mixed martial arts (MMA) throughout the Middle East with the launch of PFL MENA in 2024. Laitsas was previously SVP of Marketing Strategy for Madison Square Garden Sports.

How are you preparing for Day One at PFL?
Tons and tons of reading! I actually had a trip to the Middle East during my first week on the job. Much of the prep was simply getting smart on the stakeholders and learning the nuances of the sport, as I was previously in basketball and hockey.

What’s exciting to you about this new role?
Although the PFL is based here in the United States, this role has a Global remit. We are truly a global organization. We utilize a season format and fighters are able to progress through the regular season, playoffs, and ultimately win the championship for their respective weight class. Each champion receives $1M and (what I am most proud of) prize money is equal for men and women.

Will you be relocating?
We will be staying here in NYC! DUMBO to be exact.

What’s your morning routine?
I start my day around 5:30 or 6 a.m. by walking our Golden Retriever puppy (Khione). I then try to get a workout of some sort (running or weights), followed by eating breakfast (typically black coffee, oatmeal, fruit, and egg whites) while I plot out my deliverables for the day and listen to sports news in the background. I aim to get all of this done before 8 a.m.
