Scott O’Neil (MBA 1998), former CEO of Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment, was recently named CEO of the UK-based theme park company Merlin Entertainments, the Wall Street Journal reported recently.
The Journal notes that Merlin Entertainments is second in size only to Disney in the theme park space, with more than 140 attractions in 24 countries, featuring partnerships with Lego, Hasbro, and Sony Pictures Entertainment. “We will be very active in making sure brands know we are open for business,” O’Neil told the Journal.
In a 2017 episode of the HBS Alumni podcast Skydeck, O’Neil spoke about how he set and scaled his organizational values of mind, body, and soul while leading HBSE. “I don't think there's one thing that creates the mind, body, and soul, but I can tell you that our executives live it,” O’Neil said. “And I think our opportunity there, more than anything else, is that we, the leaders—we have to be what we say we want to be. Talk is cheap and talk is easy, but from our perspective it's like we have to model the behavior we expect in this organization.”
