In a recent profile, the New York Times detailed the career of Tracy Britt Cool (MBA 2009), which has culminated in the launch of her new investment firm, Kanbrick.

Britt Cool’s business career began in childhood, working at her parents’ Kansas farmstand, the article recounts, and eventually becoming president of the local farmers’ market at 15. Her post-HBS career began at Berkshire Hathaway, where she was hired after sending a letter seeking employment to the firm’s legendary chief executive and chairman, Warren Buffett.

Britt Cool says her new firm will employ many of the lessons of her time at Berkshire Hathaway, but tells the Times that “I’m not building a Berkshire 2.0. …I’m building something different using some of the principles.” Her classmate Andrew Van Pelt (MBA 2009) says her approach is also very different from how some expect private equity firms to behave. “The No. 1 reason people don’t want to sell to P.E. is: Who are these jerks?” he tells the Times. “That’s very much the opposite of her style.”
