In his first experience as an HBS volunteer, serving on the Major Gifts Committee for his 10th Reunion, D.J. Haley felt strongly about establishing a fellowship fund to support HBS students with a military service background—and so did 11 of his classmates. Haley, a former US Navy SEAL and currently a managing director at Ziff Brothers Investments, led an effort that raised $335,000 toward the fund that carries the name he believes says it all: the MBA Class of 2001 National Defense Fellowship.
To honor the memory of Bob Bennett (MBA 1986), who passed away in August 2011, a month before his 25th Reunion, former roommates Rich Doyle, Tom Murphy, and Stephen Quazzo organized the creation of a fund in his name. The response shows the power of group giving with an impressive $1.3 million raised from 20 HBS classmates and friends toward the Robert E. Bennett Memorial Fellowship. Such a generous outpouring is a testament to the positive impact that “Benny,” a Baker Scholar, had on the lives of so many and will continue to have on future generations of HBS students.
