Strengthening City Hall’s Foundations

In an opinion piece published by the Jerusalem Post on April 4, 2022, Michael Bloomberg (MBA 1966) announced a new management training program to support mayors in Israel. The Bloomberg-Sagol Center for City Leadership, created in partnership with Yossi Sagol (MBA 2008) and the Sagol family, aims to help mayors of cities in Israel improve public services for residents and strengthen ties with the global community.
Modeled on the Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative, which has supported 200 mayors across the United States since 2016, the new center at Tel Aviv University will train 20 mayors and key staff in Israel every year.
Bloomberg writes that, while there are “all kinds of leadership training programs for CEOs and senior executives, … mayors are thrust into the job and the crises that arise without having a lot of resources to draw upon.” The new partnership aims to deliver world-class management training to help mayors in Israel and their teams as they lead through the crises that arise in city governance.
