Growing Latino Buying Power
David Perez (MBA 1996), cofounder and managing partner of the private equity firm Avance Investment Management, recently spoke to CNBC’s Squawk Box as part of the show’s focus on Latino businesses for Hispanic Heritage Month.
Perez notes that his firm saw opportunity in the country’s demographic trends. “I started looking at this market close to 20 years ago, when Hispanics were about 10 percent of the population,” Perez explained. Today that number is about 20 percent, he notes, “and if we believe the numbers from the Census—we’re going to be about 30 percent of the population in 20, 30 years.”
Perez goes on to say that Avance is still early to this trend. “If you look at the Latino market, probably less than a fraction of one percent of the capital is focused on it,” he says. “So I think we have a ways to go. But the impact that this group is having on the broader economy—and the opportunity set we see—is something that I have been focused on throughout my career with my partners.”
