Having a Moment

Aisha Chottani (MBA 2015)
As an engagement manager at McKinsey, Aisha Chottani (MBA 2015) often found herself in need of an afternoon energy boost. But caffeinated, sugary drinks left her feeling even more depleted, so she swapped in a quick meditation session and experienced an immediate change: “I realized it’s not caffeine that gets you focused, you need a calm mind to be able to think clearly—that’s when you can be at your best,” she told Forbes.com.
The experience inspired the Pakistani native to launch Moment, a direct-to-consumer meditation beverage company offering products that use ingredients such as Ashwagandha and Tulsi that Chottani saw her mother use in Ayurvedic recipes. “It’s so interesting to see people returning to their roots,” she says. “As the world gets more globalized, we’re starting to see the benefits of things we forgot about or never paid attention to.”
After two years of planning, and a slight delay due to COVID, Moment launched in June 2020 and won Best Startup Beverage at the BevNET New Beverage Showdown 2020. While the company’s tagline encourages potential customers to “drink your meditation,” Chottani emphasizes that Moment is an accessory to, not a replacement for meditation. “It helps you access the same feeling, it’s a gateway into it,” she clarifies. “In the evenings and on weekends, I have Moment as a point of transition.”
