C. Fritz Foley, the Andre R. Jakurski Professor of Business Administration, has been named Senior Associate Dean for External Relations. In this role, Foley will work to enhance alumni engagement and expand opportunities for lifelong learning. He also will partner with the External Relations team, led by Janet Cahill, on fundraising efforts that advance the School's priorities while deepening its global impact.
“This is an exciting moment to think about new ways we can engage with our remarkable alumni who are making a difference in the world,” says Dean Srikant Datar. “Fritz’s many ties to our alumni provide a strong foundation from which to launch a new era of connectivity between the School and its graduates.” In recent years, Foley has presented his research to a number of alumni groups; engaged with alumni and companies for his CFO courses; and chaired the Network and Community track of the Dean’s Digital Transformation Task Force, which was focused on exploring opportunities to educate and connect our alumni as lifelong learners. Additionally, having served most recently as the Senior Associate Dean for Strategic Financial Planning, Foley worked closely with CFO Richard P. Melnick in advising Dean Datar and former Dean Nohria on the School’s finances.
Prior to joining the HBS faculty in 2004, Foley taught at the University of Michigan Business School. He received a Ph.D. in Business Economics from Harvard University and a B.A. in Ethics, Politics, and Economics from Yale University. Foley’s research focuses on corporate finance, and he has published papers on investment, capital structure, working capital management, dividend policy, joint ventures, intellectual property, and corporate tax policy. He currently teaches Corporate Financial Operations, a second-year MBA elective course he created. He also co-chairs Finance for Senior Executives and has taught in numerous other HBS Executive Education programs. Foley is also a Research Associate in the National Bureau of Economic Research’s Corporate Finance and International Trade and Investment Programs.
“I am eager to embark on the work ahead to help strengthen the critical ties between our alumni and HBS. It’s an exciting opportunity to assume a new role and serve the School in this capacity,” Foley says.
DAS’S DEEP IMPACT
Outgoing Senior Associate Dean for External Relations Das Narayandas leaves a legacy of notable accomplishments after five years in the role. Narayandas, the Edsel Bryant Ford Professor of Business Administration and Senior Associate Dean of Harvard Business Publishing, championed lifelong learning and advanced alumni engagement, recognizing both as critical components of the HBS experience; forged important new cross-School partnerships, particularly with Executive Education and Harvard Business Publishing; and encouraged innovative approaches to alumni programs and planning. Narayandas also helped lead the HBS Campaign to a successful conclusion as the largest campaign in business school history, raising $1.4 billion in support of the School’s mission to educate leaders who make a difference in the world.
“Das’s work with and through External Relations has laid the foundation to create a new value proposition: one of continued personal and professional development for all who come to Harvard Business School,” says Dean Srikant Datar. “I am truly grateful for all he has done.”
