Leading Maryland’s Only Black-Owned and -Managed Commercial Bank to Be a Pandemic Resource
The Baltimore Sun recently highlighted the work of John Lewis (MBA 2004), President and Chief Operating Officer of Harbor Bank of Maryland, which the newspaper notes became a vital pandemic-era resource for businesses looking to obtain federal Paycheck Protection Program funds.
Led by Lewis, the bank “not only accepted PPP applications, but his employees went out of their way to help qualified business owners, regardless of whether they were Harbor Bank customers.”
The Sun notes that the bank funded 694 loans worth a total of $66 million as part of the federal program, most of the loans going to community businesses in the region. He notes that having this kind of opportunity to have a positive impact is something he always stresses to those considering a career in finance. “Make sure you’re in [a] situation where the organization that you belong to is creating a pathway for you to be successful,” he told the Sun.
