On May 5, the Harvard i-lab presented the tenth annual President’s Innovation Challenge awards ceremony, a live-streamed event in which finalists pitched their ventures to compete for prizes from the Bertarelli Foundation. Each presentation by Harvard students and alumni represented many semesters—if not years—of work and study, according Matt Segneri (MBA 2010), Bruce and Bridgitt Evans Executive Director of the Harvard Innovation Labs.
The Harvard Gazette reported that MBA candidates Hunter Goble and Nikki Okrah were among the five grand-prize winners. Goble is co-founder of Karivez Bio, a platform for transforming chronic disease treatment through improved drug delivery. Okrah is founder and CEO of Chaku Foods, a fast-moving consumer goods company based in Ghana, West Africa, that uses local agricultural products for exported organic snack brands.
In the hour-long event, Harvard University President Larry Bacow congratulated the finalists and recognized their role in inspiring change. “Thank you for transforming flashes of inspiration and ingenuity into something that’s real and tangible and concrete,” he said. “This year has underscored the power of knowledge to save lives, to save communities, and… to help lead us into what we hope will be a more normal future.”
