Doctoral Alumni Take Stage
Topics: Education-AdmissionsEducation-AdmissionsEducation-Business EducationEducation-Higher EducationGraduates of the HBS Doctoral Programs scatter far and wide to launch their academic careers at prestigious US and foreign universities. Now, a select group returns to campus each spring at the School’s invitation to participate in Young Alumni Research Day (YARD). The event, first held in 2011, is an opportunity for young scholars to report on their current work and socialize with faculty and current doctoral students.
Nine doctoral alumni (pictured above), all assistant professors at their respective universities, took part in the April 13 sessions, featuring individual research presentations, panel discussions, and dinner at the Spangler Center. “The idea behind YARD is to create a community of HBS scholars, from doctoral students, recent graduates, and HBS faculty,” says Dianne Le, associate director of Doctoral Programs. “And it’s great exposure for the doctoral students to learn about career opportunities.”
The HBS Doctoral Programs enroll about 25 students each year out of roughly 800 applicants, an acceptance rate of approximately 4 percent. Some 130 students currently are working on doctoral degrees.
