Semper Fidelis
In April, Tim Day (MBA 1964), chairman and CEO of Bar-S Foods, a processed-meats producer in Phoenix, Arizona, pledged $12 million in support of the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Quantico, Virginia. Day’s most recent gift, one of several major commitments, will enable the building of both a scenic overlook and galleries highlighting post–Vietnam era Marine Corps operations.
“It’s very inspirational for Marines to go through the museum and to educate their families about what Marines have done in the history of this country,” Day told the Phoenix Business Journal (June 22, 2012). Day, who served as an active-duty officer from 1959 to 1962, has credited much of his business success to values instilled by the Marine Corps and to his HBS experiences. In appreciation of these two transformative institutions in his life, Day has set up an MBA fellowship (in 2005) and an AMP fellowship (in 2011) at HBS to support students who are former or serving Marines, respectively, who have demonstrated outstanding leadership.
