Case Study Pioneer
Topics: Education-Business EducationEducation-Business EducationInformation-CasesHistory-Business HistoryInnovation-Innovation LeadershipHBS’s first director of case development, Andrew Towl (MBA 1936), whose three-decade career at the School was instrumental in establishing the influence of the case method worldwide, died in June at the age of 101. Towl conducted case-writing workshops and programs in nearly 40 countries while also building the Intercollegiate Case Clearing House, an organization at HBS that was dedicated to US and international dissemination of cases written by faculty from Harvard and other universities. A legacy of his work is the Andrew R. Towl Endowment Fund at HBS for the development and use of teaching materials and methods derived from field-based research.
