On a bright mid-August morning, a hard-hat crew aided by a massive crane replaced the centuries-old Russian bell atop Baker Library with a newly cast HBS Centennial Bell. The old bell, considered a Russian national treasure, was returned to Moscow’s Danilov Monastery, which sold it and seventeen others in 1930 to prevent their destruction. Several Russian newspaper reporters and television crews covered the event.
