Filling the White Space
At Able Partners, Amanda Eilian (MBA 2006) and Lisa Blau (MBA 2003) have focused primarily on women-led wellness companies, including businesses such as Goop, Moon Juice, and Daily Harvest. Now the New York–based investment firm has turned its attention to Compass Pathways and Atai, two European companies involved in research into psychedelic compounds for medical use. (Compass has been granted a US patent that covers a method of obtaining psilocybin to treat drug-resistant depression; the treatment is in a phase IIb clinical trial.)
“Most institutional funds can’t invest in areas like psychedelics,” Eilian told the New York Times. “So there was this white space for somewhat untraditional funds like ourselves to be able to look at the category.”
