From Das’s Desk
A central tenet of lifelong learning today is “anywhere, anytime.” The more learning opportunities can be delivered whenever you—the user—want them, wherever you are, the way you want them, and when you most need them, the more valuable they’ll be to you—and the more likely you’ll be to come back.
As the External Relations team explores the breadth of options for lifelong learning content and programs for alumni, one area where we’re already seeing success is in the world of podcasting. Over the past few years, podcasts have exploded in popularity. Here at HBS we have responded by developing the following suite of podcasts—with no end of new ideas in sight.
- After Hours – Professors Youngme Moon, Mihir Desai, and Felix Oberholzer-Gee enjoy a free-form exchange of ideas around the intersection of business and culture.
- Cold Call – HBS faculty talk about timely new case studies they have written and the insights and lessons they offer.
- The Disruptive Voice – A series that looks at examples of disruptive innovation being explored by academics, researchers, and practitioners who were inspired by Professor Clay Christensen.
- Managing the Future of Work – HBS faculty members Bill Kerr and Joe Fuller talk to business leaders about the forces changing the way we work.
- Skydeck – Alumni from across the world of business share lessons learned and their own life experiences.
- Under the Datascope – A series from the School’s Kraft Precision Medicine Accelerator showcasing companies that bring data and analytics technologies to precision medicine today.
And this is just a partial list. There’s a new HBS podcast coming soon that will focus on business challenges and opportunities in the era of climate change. And Harvard Business Review hosts a podcast network covering a number of timely business topics, including women at work, the rise of artificial intelligence, and FOMO (fear of missing out).
[Podcasts] offer listeners the opportunity to gain knowledge, explore new ideas, and broaden their perspective—in other words, to learn—whenever they want, wherever they are, and in a way that works best for them.
All of the podcasts are available on the major online platforms, for live listening or download to your device, and for single episodes (usually a convenient 20 minutes or so) or binge listening. And therein is the beauty of the medium: It offers listeners the opportunity to gain knowledge, explore new ideas, and broaden their perspective—in other words, to learn—whenever they want, wherever they are, and in a way that works best for them.
If you’re not already in the podcasting habit, I encourage you to give some of these series a listen. (You can find most of them at hbs.edu/podcasts.) And then let me know what you think. As always, I look forward to your feedback and insights.
