This Site’s for You
We’ve made a number of changes in the magazine over the past several years, all designed to make it more interesting for you to read. Now we’ve given the Bulletin Web site a much-needed overhaul. While we will continue to post the current issue, including Class Notes, and archive issues back to 1996, the new homepage — www.alumni.hbs.edu/bulletin/ — includes features that, we hope, will give you reason to visit often and even share your thoughts with us.
The key new feature is the blog, where editors Garry Emmons, Julia Hanna, Keith Larson, and I will take turns writing a new post each week. Each of us will take a slightly different tack, but HBS will be a common thread. Some posts may recount interesting happenings on campus — there’s a lot going on that never makes it into the magazine. Some may be inspired by the avalanche of class notes we receive for each issue. Others may play off current events that impact a significant number of HBS alumni. As with blogs elsewhere on the Web, we make it easy for you to talk back to us. Don’t be shy.
The arrival of our own blog inspired Class Notes editor Larson to go on a search for alumni blogs. Tapping into his network of some 900 class secretaries for help, he compiled a list of 51 alumni blogs plus 7 posted by HBS faculty. Topics include kite-surfing, food and wine, technology, politics, and investing. You can view them all in Larson’s March 4 blog post. He’ll add to the list as more blogs come to his attention. So let him know if yours isn’t included: klarson@hbs.edu.
Another interactive feature on our new homepage is the reader poll. We’ll use it to pose questions on topics that we think will be of interest to HBS alumni. Take a moment to let us know what you think.
The third interactive feature is a historical campus photo. In each issue of the Bulletin, we publish a mystery photo called “Last Look” and invite readers to tell us what’s going on. We typically get a batch of e-mail responses and summarize explanations in the next issue of the magazine. Now you can view the current “Last Look” photo on the Web and submit your best guess about what’s taking place.
While we were revamping the Web site, we didn’t stop at the homepage. One of our goals was to answer your frequently asked questions. When you click on the new About Us link, you can now get quick answers to questions about advertising in the magazine, changing your mailing address, and submitting article ideas. You’ll also find a convenient Write Us link on the homepage. We look forward to hearing from you.
