Two Alumnae Among Time’s Most Influential of 2019
Alumnae Jennifer Hyman (MBA 2009) and Aileen Lee (MBA 1997) were selected for the Time 100—the magazine’s annual list of most influential people.

Hyman is the cofounder and CEO of Rent the Runway, and her Time 100 entry is written by Diane von Furstenberg, fashion designer and chair of the Council of Fashion Designers of America. Von Furstenberg recalls her first meeting with Hyman, in which the legendary designer told Hyman—then an HBS student—that fast fashion was hurting designers. “She ran with that problem and solved so many others along with it: democratizing access to designer fashion, increasing sustainability by reducing the tendency to overbuy, and helping her customers to feel their best and live their most confident lives,” von Furstenberg writes.

Lee is the founder of All Raise, a nonprofit that is “dedicated to diversity in founders and funders.” Her entry is written by Kirsten Green, founding partner of both the VC firm Forerunner Ventures and All Raise, who tallies the non-profit’s successes over the last two years: “(O)ver 35 new female general partners were added in 2018; 200 female venture capitalists and founders delivered more than 1,000 hours of mentorship; upwards of 1,000 founders pledged their commitment to diversity within their teams, boards and capital tables; and 400-plus women VCs gathered for the inaugural All Raise summit.”
