Two HBS Alumni to Lead Carlyle Group
Glenn Youngkin (MBA 1994) and Kewsong Lee (MBA 1990) have been tapped to lead the Carlyle Group as co-CEOs. Founder Dan D’Aniello (MBA 1974) will become chairman emeritus and remain on Carlyle’s board, and his fellow founders David Rubenstein and Bill Conway will become co-executive chairmen.
“We are fully committed to and confident in the firm’s future and will continue to be substantial investors in Carlyle funds for years to come,” the founders of the 30-year-old private equity firm said in a statement announcing the transfer of leadership.
Youngkin, who has been with the firm since 1995, began in the leveraged-buyout group, and has also served as interim chief financial officer, chief operating officer and president. Lee joined Carlyle in 2013 as deputy chief investment officer of private equity after more than 20 years at Warburg Pincus.
