Cathy Kuehn Price and Malcolm Price cite two primary reasons for supporting HBS: appreciation for what they learned as students and enthusiasm for the School’s 21st century agenda. “I went to HBS to broaden my career horizons,” notes Malcolm, who was a practicing attorney in Australia when he decided to shift his focus to business. Now heading the Financial Sponsors Group at Credit Suisse in New York City, he views the case method as “an incredibly powerful way of learning.”
Cathy, who worked at Credit Suisse for over a decade after HBS, adds that returning to campus for reunions has given her an appreciation for the School’s ability to keep pace with the evolving practice of business. “I’m fascinated by all the changes,” she says. “There’s so much going on with entrepreneurship now,” noting her interest in the Harvard Innovation Lab. “I think it is fantastic that all first-year students are spending time abroad, and the increased integration with other areas of Harvard really recognizes the importance of interdisciplinary learning. I wish I could go back again as a student!”
Malcolm views the couple’s gift, through a committed bequest pledge, as a way to support an institution they believe in without compromising their family’s financial security. “Harvard is great at providing vehicles that allow you to achieve your philanthropic goals,” he says. “I also would argue that—in terms of positive impact—you get more leverage out of a gift to HBS than to almost any other institution. Here, your gift helps launch the careers of 900 bright, passionate, young graduates every year. That kind of investment has a global ripple effect.” (June 2012)
Learn how you, too, can achieve your philanthropic goals by naming HBS as a beneficiary of your will.
