Greetings from snow-swept Minnesota! In the last few months, I've had the privilege of visiting HBS a number of times, and I wanted to update you on my trips and the things I learned while on campus.
After attending the Fall Reunions in October, I returned to campus a few weeks later to participate in a wonderful Volunteer Conference, which drew a record gathering of class secretaries and correspondents, fund agents, and reunion program committee members. The conference provided participants with an update on current research and curriculum innovation and gave them an opportunity to share ideas and "best practice" with fellow volunteers. The sessions were lively and informative, and it was exciting to see such a committed and energetic group in action.
In my capacity as president of the HBS Alumni Association, I returned in early December to attend an Executive Education Program titled "Governing for Nonprofit Excellence: Critical Issues for Board Leadership." This was a terrific opportunity to sample one of the short program offerings of Executive Education. As with so many HBS experiences, I came away with a wealth of valuable information and a list of new contacts. These programs feature outstanding HBS faculty teaching the latest in business strategy and management - I encourage all of you to participate. For a listing of upcoming programs and contact information for the Executive-Education Programs office, see http://www.exed.hbs.edu/.
My next trip will take me to Hong Kong in April to attend the Global Alumni Conference "Greater China: Myths, Realities, Opportunities." This exciting event will explore timely and important issues with a distinguished group of participants, including HBS alumni, Asian government officials, business leaders, and HBS faculty. I hope you will join me for this unique opportunity to visit Hong Kong before its historic transition in government.
Back on the HBS campus, the technology revolution is in full swing! If you have visited the School within the last six months, you may have seen the new Research and Technology Lab and heard about "lifetime" alumni e-mail addresses. The former has made an enormous impact on the students and faculty at the School, and the latter will have an impact on all alumni; please take a moment to read the related article in the Update section, and keep an eye on your mailbox as the School rolls out the program. In the meantime, I encourage you to investigate the Alumni section of the HBS Web site located at /alumni. As technology advances, so does our outreach - we look forward to connecting with you on campus, through the local clubs, and now via the Internet!
