Nishant Sharma (MBA 2006)
For Nishant Sharma (MBA 2006), cofounder and managing director of Kedaara Capital Advisors LLP in Mumbai, the impact of HBS has been significant. While the School has had a positive influence on his life, Nishant sees its reach as going far beyond any one person—affecting his country, India, and more broadly, the world at large.
“HBS changed my career direction and broadened my horizons,” he says. “I was going into the health care sector, but a summer in equity capital between my MBA years convinced me to change course.” HBS provided the leadership skills and confidence that Nishant needed to help him launch his own firm after leaving a larger company. “The case method emphasizes practical learning, which prepared me for my role at Kedaara,” he says, noting that the School’s alumni network in India has proven invaluable. “It gives me unparalleled access to other graduates. They have helped with every aspect of my business.”
Nishant’s commitment to the School is broad ranging. He serves as treasurer of the HBS Club of India, and he works with prospective students to help them decide whether to attend HBS. He also recently made a leadership gift to the School’s India Research Center (IRC) in Mumbai in honor of his 10th Reunion. “The IRC has become a powerful nucleus of HBS activity,” Nishant says, “where faculty members and staff are conducting highly relevant research.”
The IRC, he notes, is contributing to a more diverse curriculum and to the School’s field-based learning efforts, benefiting both India and HBS. “Today, the School is more international in orientation,” he says, “and the curriculum reflects the reality of global business.”
Nishant intends to remain engaged with the School, and he hopes to further his involvement in the future. “I believe it is my duty to give back, as do many of my classmates. It’s a tradition that forms a unique bond among us.”
