How to Prepare for Shark Tank
What’s it like to appear on ABC-TV’s popular start-up series Shark Tank? In a word, nerve-wracking. Just ask Desiree Stolar and Nate Barbera (both MBA 2015), cofounders of Unshrinkit, a Harvard-born startup that has developed a formula that brings shrunken sweaters back to their original size.
"As soon as you agreed, you couldn’t talk to anyone about it," Stolar told the BostonInno news website.
In fact, after agreeing to appear before the Sharks, the Unshrinkit duo did three months of intensive prep, then flew to Los Angeles for film… and then wait, and wait, to learn if their segment would ever actually appear on-air – even though they landed a sweet deal from Shark Tank investor and Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban (spoiler alert: they accepted $150,000 for a 15 percent stake).
"We were emotionally, mentally, and physically spent, but you're so grateful for the opportunity that you take it in stride," Stolar said. "It’s just too amazing of a platform for a consumer good company to not make it happen."
Read more about Stolar and Barbera’s experience, plus their four tips for future Shark Tank pitchers, on BostonInno.com.
