Case Studies for Your Commute
Case discussions typically start with the facts and blossom from there. But what happened before that? What got the professor excited about writing the case in the first place? What margin notes didn’t make it into the final draft? And how does the author connect the experience to the actual practice of management?
These are a few of the questions that will be answered in the new HBS podcast Cold Call, available this month via iTunes. “We want this podcast to reflect what is unique and distinctive about HBS,” says Brian Kenny, the School’s chief marketing and communications officer. “And if you look at what is core to our DNA, it is the case method.”
The podcast will feature a conversation between a faculty author and Kenny twice a month, covering a diversity of fields and topics. (Early entries include Associate Professor Thales Teixeira on TripAdvisor and Professor Forest Reinhardt on sustainability at Heineken.) “This offers us an opportunity to showcase the breadth and depth of the subjects our faculty work on,” says Kenny. “I think it will surprise people. And that’s kind of what we want.”
