Student Benefits from Class of 2006 Fellowship
For the third year in a row, the MBA graduating class has established a fellowship that will benefit future HBS students. The Class of 2006 broke fundraising and participation records by raising almost $30,000 from 78 percent of the class. Sections A, G, and J each had 100 percent participation. “We thought it was important to ensure that future students have access to the type of educational experience we had at HBS, regardless of ability to pay,” said Brian Clay (MBA ’06), a member of Section F who cochaired the class gift along with classmate Wendy Lim of Section J.
“Receiving this fellowship has really made a difference for me,” says Rebecca Gifford Goldberg (HBS ’08), the recipient of the MBA Class of 2006 Fellowship. Goldberg, a 2003 graduate of Princeton University who majored in public and international affairs, comes to HBS with a passion for education and three years of social enterprise experience. Most recently, she served as the new schools development associate at The SEED Foundation, a nonprofit that partners with urban communities to provide educational opportunities for underserved students.
Originally intent on going to law school in order to work for educational change, Goldberg determined that she would have a bigger impact on education by gaining management skills. “I looked around and saw that many of the people I admired had gone to business school,” she remarks.
Goldberg reports that her first months at HBS have exceeded her expectations. “Our classroom discussions are fantastic,” she says. “No matter what we are talking about, there is always someone in the room who has direct, relevant experience.” Aware that her section’s diversity is enhanced by the School’s fellowship program, Goldberg is grateful that her predecessors established the fund that she received. In the long term, she hopes to make them proud by working for education reform.
