Murat Özyeg˘in (MBA 2003) always knew that eventually he would join the Fiba Group, the investment firm he watched his father, Hüsnü Özyeg˘in (MBA 1969), build in the 1980s. He was also aware that education would be key to his ability to successfully contribute to the Istanbul-based conglomerate, so when his father showed him the HBS campus at the age of 13, the younger Özyeg˘in began to map out his future. “HBS got into my blood,” he says with a laugh. After studying management and economics at Carnegie Mellon University and working on Wall Street for three years, he arrived at Soldiers Field.

“I was thrilled by the learning. The case studies, the class-room discussions, everything we did was so relevant to my future,” Özyeg˘in says. “I loved it.” After earning his MBA, Özyeg˘in joined Fiba, where he currently serves as head of strategic planning and business development. “As I’ve gotten more involved with decision-making, I’ve appreciated HBS even more.”

Inspired by a family history of giving back to society, primarily through supporting educational endeavors, Özyeg˘in continued the tradition by establishing the Özyeg˘in Family Fund for Global Understanding in honor of his 10th Reunion.

“I wanted to help HBS continue to have an impact on people,” says Özyeg˘in of his gift, which will support the School’s new research center in Istanbul. “Turkey is a region ripe for study,” he observes. “I have no doubt that incredible case materials will come out of HBS’s presence there.”
