Seeing glass in a new light
Rao Mulpuri (AMP 171, 2006) wants to transform the building industry by disrupting a common product: glass. View Dynamic Glass brings smart windows to buildings, and is gaining rapid adoption in North America—the California-based company sold out of product in 2013. Like transition sunglasses for buildings, dynamic glass dramatically increases flexibility in architectural design while reducing energy consumption. As CEO of View Dynamic Glass, Mulpuri has succeeded in taking this 50-year-old nanotechnology to market and is leading the intelligent control system of glass to new frontiers.
Under Mulpuri's leadership, View has pioneered the large-scale commercialization of architectural dynamic glass. The company designs, manufactures, and sells a new generation of window-glass nanotechnology that intelligently adjusts in response to external conditions and user preferences. At the touch of a smart phone, tablet, or wall switch, the product brings unparalleled control over the internal climate conditions of a building and returns the unobstructed view to those inside—as blinds or shades are no longer needed.
“Today, architects want increased creative flexibility and energy efficiency in building design,” says Mulpuri. “View hopes to revolutionize how the industry thinks about a building’s impact on its occupants.”
