HBS at 100: School to Celebrate Centennial
Topics: Education-Campus LifeEducation-Business EducationHistory-Business HistoryHBS was established by votes of the Corporation of Harvard University on March 30 and April 8, 1908, with the first 24 students enrolling in October. Nearly 100 years later, the School has begun the early planning for worldwide events to celebrate its centennial in 2008.
“Although we’re still in the consultative stage, it’s clear that there is a community-wide commitment to celebrate the School’s past and its future leadership in business education and research,” said HBS professor and Senior Associate Dean John Quelch, faculty chair for centennial planning. “We’re enthusiastic about involving alumni in as many of the intellectual and celebratory activities as possible,” he added. “There’s a desire both to highlight the rich contributions faculty past and present have made to management thinking, and to set the table for tackling the issues business leaders and general managers will face in the decades ahead.”
Whatever their proximity to Soldiers Field, alumni are encouraged to contribute ideas on how to celebrate the School’s centennial, both on- and off-campus. To offer your thoughts, visit www.hbs.edu/hbs100, send an e-mail to hbs100@hbs.edu, or call 617-384-8088.
