Connecting past to present
Tim Sullivan (MBA 1991) helps millions of people reconstruct their families’ past and connect it to their present. As president and CEO of Ancestry.com, the world’s largest online family-history resource, Sullivan leads a company that has transformed a traditionally time-intensive pursuit requiring extensive resources into an easy option for families across the globe.
“By leveraging technology, the Internet, and network-effect scale, we’ve sparked mainstream interest in family history by making it accessible to millions of people around the world,” explains Sullivan.
Ancestry.com was founded in 1983 and has been online for nearly 18 years. It now has some 2 million subscribers, who use the site to explore their family roots, discover their ethnicity, and to seek out relatives. They have created more than 60 million family trees using billions of digitized family-history records reaching back to the late 1300s.
“We are guided by a very human mission: to help every person discover, preserve, and share their family history,” says Sullivan. “We work together across the globe to provide something truly priceless: authentic family stories.”
