Leading in the face of complex challenges
John B. Hess (AB 1975, MBA 1977), CEO of Hess Corporation and chair of The Harvard Business School Campaign, is working to ensure the School continues to educate the leaders who will help solve the world’s most pressing and complex challenges.
“I believe that an investment in the School is ultimately an investment in a better world,” says Hess, “one led by alumni who build more effective, sustainable institutions and organizations and inspire hope and opportunity in communities around the world.” Hess understands the importance of innovation—it has enabled him to scale the business his father founded in the 1930s as Hess Oil and Chemical Company.
A longtime advocate for and supporter of HBS, Hess is at the helm of an effort that also seeks to actively engage the alumni community. He considers the mobilization of alumni as “vital” to the HBS mission. The School’s campaign will ensure that HBS remains at the forefront of management education and prepares its students to lead in a rapidly changing world. “It is critical that each of us as leaders takes responsibility to do all we can to support HBS at this time.”
