Fostering financial freedom for low-income individuals

Scott Cook (MBA 1976) wants to change lives through initiatives he created as cofounder of Intuit. These include the Intuit Tax Freedom Project, which provides free online tax preparation services for Americans who cannot afford to pay, helping them to file more than 11 million tax returns since 1998, and the “Love Our Local Business” program, which encourages growth for small businesses by giving grants to entrepreneurs. In India, Intuit’s free mobile application, Fasal, has connected 1.5 million farmers with agents to get fair-market prices for their products.

Cook’s mission is to use the resources of Intuit, one of the world’s largest producers of personal finance programs, including Quicken and TurboTax, to foster economic empowerment for the disadvantaged by providing them with the tools to master their finances.

He finds success by following one basic idea: “Solve the problem that other people have ignored or can’t fix.”
