Giving hope and inspiration to cancer patients around the globe

Every new day is a good day for Kathryn E. Giusti (MBA 1985) since that morning in 1996 when her oncologist told her to get her affairs in order because she had a rare blood cancer, with three years to live. Leveraging her past experience as a pharmaceutical industry executive, Giusti founded the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) and the Multiple Myeloma Research Consortium.
The MMRF built the first multi-center myeloma tissue bank, became the first to sequence the myeloma genome, and launched the MMRF CoMMpass Study to generate a critical mass of high-quality genomic and clinical data and share it globally. The organization also spearheads a clinical network of 16 research centers to conduct early-phase clinical trials faster and more efficiently.
By applying business principles to the scientific field, Giusti has broken down barriers and given hope, inspiration, and life to cancer patients around the world. “Don’t wait for a crisis to do something amazing with your life,” she says. “Ask yourself today: How can I make a difference?” Giusti, who is in remission, previously served on the National Cancer Advisory Board and remains CEO of the MMRF.
