Using technology to create a platform for discussion

Having grown up outside Silicon Valley, Linda Leung (MBA 2014) is comfortable with integrating technology and business. It’s no wonder, then, that when she served as online communications manager for the HBS Women Students Association, Leung used social media to help more than triple the group’s online membership. “We wanted to offer a platform where people can talk about gender issues on campus and create a supportive environment,” she says.
Expressing a sentiment that resonates with the 50th-anniversary celebration in 2013 of women’s admittance to the two-year program at HBS, Leung adds, “I want to be a good example to other women in the tech industry.”
Now a product manager at LinkedIn, Leung has a background in physics and economics, but her interests in technology and media steered her toward the professional goal of “building cool products that people can use.” As a fellowship recipient at the School, she found that relief from a financial burden freed her to think more widely about her career plans. “Whenever you take out the financial constraints,” says Leung, “you let people explore a lot of more of what’s interesting to them.”
