Transforming the way the social sector innovates, learns, and improves

To help eradicate poverty worldwide, Esther Hsu Wang (MBA 2009, MPA 2010) aims to ensure that the $630 billion spent annually in international development goes toward programs that work. Wang cofounded IDinsight to inform decisions based on rigorous evidence. IDinsight collaborates with governments, NGOs, foundations, and other international development organizations, to enable more effective decision-making.
IDinsight has offices in three countries and works across a diverse set of development sectors. In India, IDinsight is helping to improve a $200 million governance and nutrition program. In Zambia and Uganda, it partnered with the Clinton Health Access Initiative and the Ministries of Health to test new policies in HIV, malaria, and maternal health. IDinsight has also worked in Cambodia and Rwanda and in other sectors such as education, energy, and agriculture.
The fee-for-service nonprofit conducts field research, oversees data collection and processing, and presents clients with key findings, program implications, and implementation recommendations and tools. “The data we generate helps managers make the best decisions, improve their work, and maximize their impact on populations in need,” says Wang. IDinsight also advises on impact measurement and innovative learning for social-sector partners.
