Child’s Play
The Over in the Meadow Animated Storybook is an interactive, animated, and educational product, the first to be rolled out by a start-up called iMomConnect. It’s designed to help busy parents teach young children how to count and learn animal sounds, among other skills, with more features, convenience, and portability than a stack of books. “We created this company to create child development apps on the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad that help with the social, mental, and physical development of children,” cofounder Rupa Tak (MBA ’07) told the Green Bay Press-Gazette (November 16, 2010). Observing her own under-two son flip pictures and flashcards on an iPhone, Tak realized how technology can be used by even the very young. And she noted, while there are lots of apps for mobile devices, there aren’t enough for children. “We hope to fill that gap,” she said.
