The Summer Venture in Management Program (SVMP), a weeklong management-training session for talented minority college students, completed its sixteenth season in June. This year's class consisted of 77 participants from 53 colleges, with many of the students drawn from smaller state and community schools. Taught by a team of eight HBS professors, they spent their week immersed in case discussions and study groups, a highlight of a summer in which they also worked as interns at large companies. We're pleased that more people are learning about the program, said Associate Professor Benjamin C. Esty, SVMP chairman, who noted that the program had three times as many applicants as last year. We had a very successful session. This year's class was bright, academically accomplished, and very high energy.
