The Harvard Corporation in September endorsed a plan to restart development of a science complex on Western Avenue across from HBS and to create an “enterprise research” campus with a hotel and conference center. In an open letter to the Harvard and Allston communities, Katherine N. Lapp, the University’s executive vice president, outlined a two-part plan for proceeding.
Phase one includes construction of a 500,000- to 700,000-square-foot health and life science center. Funding for the project will be part of the University’s upcoming capital campaign. Planning for student and faculty apartments and a retail center at Barry’s Corner, located at the intersection of Western Avenue and North Harvard Street, is also part of phase one.
The second phase will focus on planning for an enterprise research campus, including a hotel and conference center on Western Avenue between the science complex and the Charles River. For more details, read Lapp’s letter at www.evp.harvard.edu/Allston/.
