Rising Star
In 1995, as a 20-year-old university student, Khanyi Dhlomo (MBA ’07) became the first black newscaster for South Africa’s national TV network. At 22, she was appointed editor of a South African women’s magazine and doubled its circulation within a year. Prior to enrolling at HBS, there came a stint as manager of South Africa’s Tourism Board in Paris. As Dhlomo related to Forbes magazine (June 6, 2011), “I was in my favorite city outside South Africa and promoting my country to the French market, accentuating its tourism assets in the era after sanctions.”
Now back in South Africa and the publisher of two leading business and lifestyle magazines—one for men and one for women—Dhlomo seems destined for great things. She was selected a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader in 2010, and this year Forbes named her to its pantheon of “Africa’s Most Successful Women.”
