- Offset Opportunitity & Sustainability
-
- Interested in offsetting your travel carbon footprint?
-
Offset your travel greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. HBS has received requests to provide carbon credit recommendations to offset travel emissions as some don't deliver their expected GHG reductions.
HBS is sharing a link to the CNaught offset platform as they curated a carbon credit portfolio for HBS that manages risk and meets our climate, health, and equity criteria. As an example, offsetting the emissions of an economy flight from San Francisco, CA to Boston, MA would cost $13.50.
HBS has made significant reductions in its campus greenhouse gas emissions as part of Harvard's broader climate and sustainability goals and has partially offset required academic student air travel emissions.
- How is Harvard raising awareness about climate change and sustainability, and how is HBS engaging in this critical work?
-
Harvard's Sustainability Action Plan focuses on climate, equity and health and pledges to achieve a fossil fuel free future.
HBS has made significant sustainability progress with major reductions in greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) through hundreds of conservation measures, solar PV systems* and a solar thermal system. HBS has also substantially reduced waste; installed green roofs, bee hives, healthier building materials & lighting; increased healthier, lower emissions plant-based food offerings; and improved landscaping practices.
*Note: SRECs, which represent the environmental benefit, are sold to the Harvard Utility to meet State Renewable Energy Requirements.
- What measures for waste and emissions reduction will be incorporated for Reunions?
-
- Donate leftover food through Food for Free, an organization that will match our donations to groups in need.
- Serve food on reusable china whenever possible. Utilize compostable to-go ware when china is not feasible.
- Provide waste sorting stations that allow guests to divert their waste into the Compost, which is anaerobically digested, or Recycle Streams.
- Select menu options with lower greenhouse gas emissions in mind. HBS will include more plant-forward menu options to help reduce overall emissions and provide healthier food alternatives. Please note that finalized menus may be impacted by supply chain disruptions and product availability.
- Water stations in high traffic break areas on the Schwartz Common will replace bottled water.
- Eliminate check-in packets by providing on demand check-in and use app in lieu of program books to significantly reduce paper waste.
- Gift guests a reusable tote and water bottle.
More general information can be found in Harvard's Sustainable Event Guide and Healthful Food Standards.
- Where can I learn more about the School’s commitment to sustainability?
-
More information can be found on the HBS Commitment to Sustainability webpage.
- Health & Safety
-
- What are the health and safety requirements for reunions?
-
All visitors and guests coming to campus are encouraged to be up-to-date on their vaccinations and boosters. We ask that visitors and guests do not come to campus if they are sick, have been asked to quarantine or isolate, or have tested positive for illness within the past 5 days. International travelers should be aware of vaccination, testing, quarantine, and re-entry restrictions for their return destination and any transition locations.
Any individual in our community can always choose to wear a mask and should never feel obliged to explain the reasons for their decision.
