The Role of American Business Leaders in a Challenging Election Season

Presented on Tuesday, October 27, 2020

Rawi Abdelal, Herbert F. Johnson Professor of International Management

Guest Speakers:
Juliette Kayyem, Belfer Senior Lecturer in International Security, Harvard Kennedy School of Government
Neil Malik (MBA 1998), Founder and CEO, K1 Investment Management, LLC
Christopher Robichaud, Senior Lecturer in Ethics and Public Policy, Harvard Kennedy School of Government

What role can business play in strengthening our democracy and promoting social and political stability following the US presidential election?

Amidst a pandemic that has afflicted millions, crippled the job market, damaged the national economy, and exposed social and racial unrest, the upcoming US election has the potential to calm fears and help restore order at home and around the world—or to ignite a new wave of discord and dissent.

Professor Rawi Abdelal discusses the role business leaders can play in coordination with their local governments and community leaders in strengthening our democracy and promoting social and political stability. Recognizing that business leaders have expertise in problem-solving, entrepreneurship, and innovation, what are specific approaches you can take locally or nationally to ensure a peaceful post-election period?

Panelists and participants brainstorm together about this moment of uncertainty and what we can do together to lead our country and communities in a positive direction.
