For Javier Rodriguez Del Campo (MBA 2024), navigating a nonlinear career has never felt like drifting—it has been an intentional pursuit of growth. Born in Arequipa, Peru, and raised in Lima, he has built a career defined by curiosity, breadth, and a commitment to using analytics and technology to solve meaningful problems.
Today, Javier serves as a Senior Product Manager at Amazon, where he leads pricing strategy for one of the company’s largest inbound freight brokerage solutions. His work applies advanced analytics and AI to optimize one of the world’s most complex logistics networks—but the path to this role spans multiple industries, countries, and modes of leadership.
Javier’s technical foundation began with Industrial Engineering, a discipline he chose for its flexibility and analytical rigor. After internships in manufacturing and lab environments, he joined McKinsey & Company through the Young Leaders Program. There, he worked across more than 10 industries, learning to immerse himself in unfamiliar systems quickly. This experience helped him uncover the throughline that would define his career: using data to drive clarity, decision-making, and impact.
As the COVID-19 pandemic unfolded, Javier moved into entrepreneurship, applying his skills to a problem with immediate real-world impact. “In 2020, during the pandemic, I co-founded a telemedicine platform to address the surge in demand for accessible health care,” he said. “It gave me a deep appreciation for building from scratch and sparked my interest in early-stage innovation.”
This experience led him to DEUNA, a Latin American payments startup, and later to Sevi Health in the US, where he helped optimize primary care practices using AI and technology. These roles strengthened his ability to create order in ambiguous, fast-moving environments—a skill that would follow him throughout his career.
Javier went on to pursue his MBA at Harvard Business School, a decision driven by his desire to pause, reflect, and explore where he could grow next. He credits the experience with exposing him to new ways of thinking, strengthening the connection between his technical background and strategic decision-making, and expanding his ambitions for what could come next.
At Amazon, Javier now applies his startup agility and consulting foundation on a global scale, leading pricing strategy for one of Amazon’s major freight brokerage products.
For Javier, having a cross-sector lens has become one of his most valuable assets. “Breadth creates a kind of creative tension,” he says. “It pushes you to learn quickly and approach problems with a fresh perspective. I’ve found that breadth doesn’t dilute impact—it enhances your ability to connect ideas and challenge assumptions.”
He often draws insights from industries that seem unrelated on the surface. “For example, the way we approach load balancing in logistics can be applied to patient scheduling in health care. That cross-sector application often leads to unexpected, high-impact outcomes.”
This mindset has shaped not only how he solves problems, but how he leads. “One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is that authenticity builds trust,” he says. “Being open, showing vulnerability, and approaching new environments with humility tends to bring people closer.”
When joining a new team, he invests heavily up front. “First impressions matter… I ask every basic question early. It’s a signal that you care about truly understanding the context.”
Having worked across countries and industries, Javier has become deeply comfortable with ambiguity. “I’ve had to restart multiple times—new teams, new vocabularies, new systems,” he says. “Over time, I’ve built a mindset that’s comfortable with not having all the answers right away.”
Looking ahead, Javier is energized by the convergence of AI and global logistics. “There’s a huge opportunity to reduce inefficiencies, cut emissions, and increase accessibility—especially in emerging markets,” he says. Javier hopes to help shape the next generation of smart logistics platforms and build systems that scale sustainably.
Through these varied experiences, Javier has learned the importance of crafting a cohesive story. “Focus on your narrative arc,” he says. “It’s less about the number of transitions and more about the why behind them. It's not ‘bouncing,’ it's building a portfolio of experiences.”
And for those exploring new roles or industries, he offers one final encouragement: “Don’t be afraid to experiment. Your early career is a sandbox… discomfort is often a sign that you’re growing.”
Javier’s journey demonstrates how curiosity, resilience, and cross-sector experience can compound into a powerful career—and how nonlinear paths can lead to unexpected opportunities and meaningful impact.
