The Centennial Celebration

Business Summit Online The HBS Centennial Global Business Summit convened 2,000 alumni, faculty, and business leaders from around the world to discuss key challenges facing business and society. Visit the Centennial website to watch keynote presentations on globalization and the future of market capitalism, as well as a roundtable discussion with recipients of the 2008 Alumni Achievement Awards. Check in regularly for new research and multimedia resources.

On the Global Economic Crisis HBS has launched a dedicated website on the financial crisis. From crisis management to government policy, HBS faculty are working to understand the root causes and impact of these historic events. The site serves as a central resource for commentary and research related to the ongoing turmoil.

HBS Health Conference The HBS Health Industry Alumni Association will hold its annual conference November 6–8, 2008, at Harvard Medical School. The Best of Patagonia, March 12–23, 2009 Join HBS alumni and friends in a unique trip to Argentina and Chile. Explore the rugged landscapes of Los Glaciares National Park, Mount Fitzroy, and Torres del Paine National Park. Mythical Easter Island, March 23–29, 2009 From Santiago to Easter Island, this trip weaves tradition and modernity. After exploring the diverse neighborhoods of Chile's capital, depart for Easter Island to view the giant statues called moai. Sculpted from volcanic rock, these monolithic human figures were created between 1250 and 1500 A.D. Visit archaeological sites and experience the island's natural wonders, including extinct volcanoes and the breathtaking Las Dos Ventanas cave.

Conversational Blindness In a new working paper (PDF), Assistant Professor Michael Norton and Todd Rogers, a recent PhD graduate, examine the art of dodging questions. In two experiments, they discover that listeners do not always notice when speakers respond to a different question than the one posed—and may even rate such speakers higher than those who answer the question, but do so poorly.
