Class Notes
The Class Notes section of the HBS Alumni Bulletin is the main way alumni get news about their classmates. The information below is provided to help class secretaries and correspondents submitting quarterly notes columns.
-
Gather the News
Each quarter, contact your classmates or sectionmates and ask them for news. The best way to do this is via mass e-mail at http://apps.alumni.hbs.edu/emailer/alumni/criteria.do.
HBS will also send you information we have received about your classmates each quarter. This includes digital press releases, news stories, and personal news.
-
Write Your Column
- Length: About 1,600 words when reporting section news and Executive Education news, or 3,200 words when reporting MBA class news.
- Verify the spelling of classmates' names.
- Classmates' street addresses cannot appear in the column; only telephone numbers and Internet addresses.
- Submit columns on or before the deadline. If the column will be late, please contact the Alumni Relations Office.
- Retain a copy for your records.
- Use the issues leading up to a reunion as a chance to stimulate attendance.
- Use the column to report confirmed news. (For example, announce births, not pregnancies.)
- Do not announce deaths without first confirming your news.
- Columns are edited for clarity and taste. The School will make every effort to contact you if questions about the appropriateness of the material arise.
-
Include Photos
- You may include two photos per issue when reporting on an MBA section and three per issue when reporting on an MBA class or Executive Education class.
- A classmate must be in the photo, and the people pictured must be mentioned in the column.
- Photos may be in color or in black and white.
- Digital photos are preferred. See digital photo guidelines.
- Please do not include photos from magazines, newspapers, or color prints that have been photocopied; they may not reproduce well.
- If you are unable to submit digitally, be sure to label the back of each paper photo with a sticky label (do not write with ink pen directly on the photo) with the following information:
- Name, class, and section of the people in the photo
- Name and address of the person to whom we return the photo
- Suggested caption, including last names of the people in the photo
-
Submit Your Notes
Once you have compiled the notes, you may submit them online.
