About the Program
Discover the treasures of Harvard's world-class art collection with Step Into Art, Inc., a non-profit devoted to providing dynamic art education programs for kids. The programs will be led by Abby Rischin, Ph.D., the organization's founder and an award-winning teacher, together with gifted museum educator Susan Foster.
Kids will visit Harvard's Sackler Museum, exploring paintings by Ingres, Sargent, Monet, Matisse, and Pollock through a variety of participatory activities focused on the theme of "The Artist's Studio." Highlights will include: interactive art-viewing with drama activities that help bring works to life; a Matisse-inspired mixed-media studio art project; and sketching in the museum galleries.
Parents have celebrated the program as "a dream come true," "a 'do not miss,'" "a perfect... learning experience," and "a 'must' for any family interested in giving their children the skills to truly enjoy an art museum." Join us for a memorable, fun, uniquely Harvard adventure!

Why Step Into Art?
-
Cultural Literacy
Step Into Art programs expose kids to the language of art and contribute to their cultural knowledge in a way that opens their eyes and minds to future learning.
-
Art Appreciation
Step Into Art programs enable children to discover the joy and wonder that museums hold for all ages. Kids gain valuable skills, strategies, and knowledge that carry over into other contexts (including school) through interactive, creative, hands-on activities.
-
Educational Excellence
Step Into Art programs offer a rich learning experience with an award-winning teacher. Studies have shown that looking at art helps children build skills of observation and analysis that lead to enhanced learning in other areas as well—especially science and literature.
-
Imagination and Creativity
Step Into Art programs engage children's imagination, spark their creativity, and build their self-confidence. Through our programs, kids not only learn how to look at art, they are encouraged to step into art through drama, storytelling, and art-making activities that bring great works of art to life.
-
Community Experience
Step Into Art programs bring kids together with their peers to enjoy looking at art and creating it as part of a shared experience.
-
Boston-Specific
Step Into Art programs give kids a chance to learn from great works of art they can experience face-to-face in Boston's world-class museums.
-
Fun
Children enjoy our programs so much that they communicate their excitement to their parents, who are always happiest when their kids are having fun doing something enriching and worthwhile!
