Gifts from Overseas
European Charitable Entities
Alumni gifts to HBS from European residents can be directed to one of three charitable entities to achieve tax deductibility or a tax credit. Currently such entities are available in France, Germany, and the United Kingdom.
France
ADRGE—Association pour le Développement de la Recherche dans le Domaine de la Gestion des Entreprises
A non-profit association that supports the European research and case writing activities of Harvard Business School faculty. ADRGE must perform a non-profit activity in France. This will take the form of seminars, forums with HBS faculty and participants from French universities and companies, and distribution of relevant faculty research and HBS teaching material to French professors.
Satisfies Section 200-1 of the French Tax Code. Residents of France who contribute to ADRGE will have the right to a tax credit within the limits set by French law.

Germany
Harvard Business School Foundation of Germany
A gemeinnützige Körperschaft (tax exempt organization), the principal purpose of which is to provide scholarships for German students in need to attend HBS. Gifts can also be made for the benefit of HBS.
Alumni who reside in Germany can deduct the full amount of a contribution to the Foundation from his or her gross income. Since the marginal tax rate is approximately 50%, this means that basically half of the contribution is “paid” by the tax authorities.
Class Crediting
Contributions will receive class credit.

The British Friends
-
The British Friends is a British registered charity, the principal purpose of which is to provide scholarships for British students in need to attend HBS. Gifts can also be made for the benefit of HBS.
All donations are deductible against UK tax whether or not one is a British national, providing the donor pays UK taxes under either the Gift Aid Scheme or company payroll giving schemes. The tax authority adds a further 10% to payroll giving donations. The only requirement is that the donor pays sufficient UK tax, either income tax or capital gains tax, to cover the tax on the contribution.
