We must preserve the important foundations on which the School, was built and at the same time have the courage to try new things. Today's innovative ideas will become tomorrow's tradtitions.

A Message from Nitin Nohria, HBS Dean

Thank you for your support. Your contributions enable us to fulfill the School's mission of educating leaders who make a difference in the world, whether in our classrooms, through our educational programs, as a result of the pathbreaking research that members of our faculty undertake, or via the dissemination of ideas and cases worldwide. This work has never been more important than it is today.

Our continued success as an institution would not be possible without the help of engaged alumni and friends like you. When talking to business leaders in Shanghai, an alumni club in Brazil, or groups of students here on campus, I have found members of the HBS community to be incredibly creative and caring. That so many of you—the more than 12,000 people listed in this report—have chosen to include the School in your philanthropy means a great deal to me.

As I read through this report, I am reminded of one of the phrases we projected on the wall in the newly renovated Batten Hall to inspire our incoming MBA students. It was a quote attributed to anthropologist Margaret Mead: "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." I hope you are as inspired and awed by our collective power as I am.
